About the Book Biotechnology, a more general term refers to using living organisms or their components, such as enzymes, to make products that include wine, cheese, beer and yogurt. Microorganisms are being employed hence several decades for large-scale production of a variety of biochemicals ranging from alcohols to antibiotics, and in processing of foods and feeds, etc. Biotechnology, a more general term refers to using living organisms or their components, such as enzymes, to make products that include wine, cheese, beer and yogurt. Although biotechnology and genetic modification commonly are used interchangeably. GM is a special set of technologies that alter the genetic make up of such living organisms as animals, plants or bacteria. Microbes are microscopic organisms that cannot be seen by the naked eye, only by using a microscope. Other names for microbes are microorganisms and, when related to infection or diseases, "germs" and "bugs". The uniqueness of this book, hence, lies in the author's way of reconstructing the book by delving deep in to the areas of the subject. It would be highly useful for the students, researchers and academicians who are involved in biotechnology and microbiology related aspects of agriculture.
