About the Book
The field of plant science is a branch of biology dealing exclusively with plants, rather than animals, insects or bacteria. Plant science can also delve into the evolution of plants. The Plant Science major is designed for the student with broad interests related to plants. In this major there is maximum flexibility to create a program that best suits one’s individual goals. With few specific course requirements, students can pursue the areas of plant science that interest them most. Plant science is the study of plants and how they are involved with other plants, animals and people. Botanists, or plant scientists, perform research on plants in various functions, some by using microscopes to examine the interior structures of plants, some by identifying plants in the field and some in laboratories working with the DNA of plants.
