Bacteriology and other branches. A microbiologist is a specialist in microbiology. Microbiology is researched actively, and the field is advancing continually. Microbiology is the study of microorganisms, which are unicellular or cell-cluster microscopic organisms. This includes eukaryotes such as Fungi and Protists, and prokaryotes, which are Bacteria and Archaea. Viruses, though not strictly classed as living organisms, are also studied. In short; microbiology refers to the study of life and organisms that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Microbiology is one of the fastest emerging fields as it comprises of multidisciplinary subjects like medicine, agriculture and environment. The purpose of this book is to organize our knowledge into something that can be comprehended in a relatively short time and still convey a reasonably complete picture of the microorganisms and the diseases caused by them.
